History
The GFWC/GaFWC Norcross Woman’s Club is in the 9th District of the Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs (GaFWC) and the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC). The Norcross Woman’s Club originally began as a social club with 18 charter members. Community service soon became a part of their purpose as they built and developed the first library in Gwinnett County. The USO made use of the facility during World War II. The club members contributed to the cause by knitting, collecting books and magazines for the servicemen, and rolling bandages.
This historic building offers us a wonderful setting for our general meetings, special events and the Gift Shop. This compact Neoclassical building was constructed in 1921 to house the Norcross Public Library, and held over 2,500 books at the time. It served as the library's home until 1971.
The history book “Norcross” was written by our two club members Martha Adams and Irene Crapo, both natives of Norcross. This book is available in the Gift Shop. The shop generates profits which are poured back into the community.
